"Perhaps, we should love ourselves so fiercely, that when others see us they know exactly how it should be done" Rudy Francisco
When you show up for yourself and respect yourself, you respect your body, which has a domino effect on every aspect of your life.
As a result of carving out time for self-love activities, you feel happier and more positive which leads you to making better decisions such as better food choices and saying no to things you really don’t want to do and people you don’t wish to surround yourself with.
There are many acts of self-love so to give you some idea of what you could do, here are 10 of my favorite acts of self-love.
By carving out time to step away from people, your computer, work and the stresses of everyday life, you allow yourself the opportunity to connect with your spirit, the essence of your being. Hanging out in stillness is a surefire way to cultivate a loving experience of life.
This is one of the most powerful meditations we have ever come across - 15 minutes is all you need
2. Eat Clean and Green.
Dumping the toxic junk and reducing or eliminating your consumption of animal products while loading up on glorious life-sustaining enzyme-packed plant foods tells your body that you respect it and love it and I guarantee it will love you right back. Not only is it essential for overall health, but we underestimate the affect food has on our mood and general outlook on life.
3. Here & NOW
Training your mind to stay present rather than getting stuck on the never ending conveyor belt thinking about the past, you are able to experience and enjoy where you are in every moment, the NOW, which is all you ever have. Let go of what was and what could be and focus all of your attention on this moment and find peace in the fact that everything is EXACTLY as it should be! (Good & Bad)
4. Walk In Nature & Exercise
Getting outside and making friends with the birds and the bees helps you to get reacquainted with every form of life and reminds you of the beauty that exists around you always. Take a walk on the beach, connect with the forests, lap up all that fresh air and ensure you are fully engrossed in step 3 here ;)
A daily 20-30 minute yoga practice can do WONDERS for all areas of your life.
5. Take A Duvet Day.
Sometimes we just want to retreat from the world yet the guilt we feel for doing so spoils our time out. So take a duvet day, enjoy it and get back to work the next day. NO GUILT! Working yourself to death is not trying your best - trying your best is finding BALANCE, and rest days are CRUCIAL to a healthy and healing body, mind and soul!
6. Forgive Yourself.
Set yourself free from the chains you’ve encased yourself in. If you are regretting a bad decision, wish you’d done something differently or simply have a habit of giving yourself a hard time, forgive yourself for everything you’ve done that you wish you hadn’t. You’re human, we all make mistakes and the key is to learn from them and move on. STOP SELF SABOTAGING!
7. Take An Electronic Sabbatical.
Turn off your phone, computer and TV; run a bath, read a good book or write in your journal. Spend some time alone. Especially on weekends when you don't REALLY need to do anything - connect with yourself and tap into your creativity. By making the time for things that are important to you, you will naturally start to feel the balance seeping in.
8. Trust Your Intuition.
Numbers 1, 3,4 and 7 of this list will help you build a stronger connection to your intuition so that you can hear it more clearly and then follow it. Especially when you sit still, your true essence can filter all the chatter of the monkey mind and allow you to FEEL what you need to and DO what you need to, with CLARITY!
9. Get A Massage OR Spa Day
Treat yourself to what you deserve. And if money is an issue, do a DIY spa day! There are thousands of resources on the internet to pamper you with ingredients you have lying around the house. Either way, by taking care of all the good stuff on the inside, taking care of the outside will yet again bring balance.
10. Do What You LOVE.
Make a list of all the things you love to do including things or activities you have been wanting to do for a while and MAKE TIME for them. QUIT YOUR JOB IF YOU HATE IT, leave your partner if they are not building you up, stop doing things that make you unhappy. It's better to live a short life filled with things that you love rather than a long life filled with stuff you hate doing - IMO that's just STUPID! Life is waaaay too short for that. Happiness IN THIS MOMENT comes first and should be the ONLY priority :)
